（美國‧華盛頓）智利上週六（2月27日）發生的8.8級地震威力巨大，震得可能連地軸也出現偏移，導致每天的時間縮短！

美國太空總署（NASA）專家表示，智利這次大地震，令到地球地軸偏移了2.7毫角秒（相當於約8厘米），影響地球的自轉速度，以致地球的日長時間，可能縮短了1.26微秒。不過暫時還不需要調整時鐘。

地球自傳一週需時24個小時，因此地軸改變將會影響自轉時間。

地球物理學家格羅斯利用電腦模型計算智利大地震的影響，他表示這次地震能令數百公里長的岩石移動數米，改變地球質量的分佈，從而影響地球自轉的速度。

他說：“智利地震令日長時間縮短了1.26微秒（microseconds，代表百萬分之一秒的單位），地球地軸偏移了2.7毫角秒（milliarcseconds，也就是約8厘米）。有關改變很小，實際上雖很難測量出來，但可用電腦模擬出來”。

這像溜冰轉圈時，把手臂縮回來後，就會愈轉愈快。地震後地球自轉快了也是同一道理。

格羅斯發現，和2004年印尼外海的9.1級大地震比較，智利大地震對地軸的影響更大。

局部原因是因為，智利大地震的斷層線深入地層的角度，比2004年大地震稍微陡峭，這能更輕易地垂直移動地表，進而改變地軸。

太空總署說，2004年的大地震將地軸移動約7公分，使每天時間縮短6.8微秒。

專家：島嶼被推高兩米

另一方面，研究智利地質的英國地球科學專家裡特布羅克表示，有些改變比較明顯，多個島移動了，“智利第二大城市康塞普西翁附近的聖瑪麗亞島（Santa Maria Island）或因今次地震上升了兩米。那裡的岩石證據，顯示過去的地震曾把島推高”。

台灣中央大學地球科學院院長趙豐則表示，地震帶來的改變將“永遠”維持下去。
