The book ends with the boy was rescued and sent to the policeman for interviewing him in order to obtain further details. He told them the whole story from his family, how he get into the boat and most importantly his life when he was in the boat with the animals- The tiger, hyena orang utan (the rest I don't really remember). The policemen refuses to believe his story, assuming he's just a little boy making up stories. The boy knows about it, feeling frustrated, he changed all the animal characters in the stories into human characters, for example the hyena as The Cook (or the Captain which I'm not really sure) while the orang utan as his Mother. The swap of characters made the whole story darker, one of the incident is the Cook actually ate the injured Mother due to lack of food in the boat. They choose to believe in and having huge interest in this version of story even thou it is not the truth. Why are humans so gullible, craving for such gory and tragedy and thinking in a such complicated but unnecessary way? Does it actually brings them any benefits? What made them having such kind of mindset and thinking?
In real life, the behavior of human thirst for blood can be seen almost every day, everywhere. For instance, the statistics on the amount of news papers being sold on the day where there's a wide coverage of news such a scary, twisted rape case of a beautiful young girl by her friend/family members (Similar type of stories) will increase compared to news such as a young girl whom passed away due to accident donated her organs to those whom need them. People love dramas. Can't get enough of them. It is already become part of the information embedded in our genes? Will the next generation have more fancy towards war and pain instead of love and peace?
The movie of Life of Pi is directed by Ang Lee, so far the reviews for the movie is good. I feel like watching it but I'm afraid it will disappoint me, like how "You are the apple of my eye"did. The movie was just really so-so. Maybe is the story itself is not suitable to be change to the form from a book to a movie. Still, I will strongly recommend the others to read the book itself-- It is the raw form where you can get what the author , Yann Martel wants to deliver to his readers. Different individuals will have different interpretation towards the message.
Let me know what do you think about it.
