The younger generation should be educated regarding the tradition of giving ang pau. Initially, the little red packet is a sign of aupisious, believed that it will bring luck, great health and longevity. Its a blessing from the elder generation to the younger ones. However, nowadays the main concern is 'How much is in the angpau'. Kids will actually judge you, complain if the amount is not low. They will compare with each other on the amount they have received. No wonder some of the young couples afraid of going back to their hometown, meeting relatives during this festive season. Besides facing the pressure of "When you guys gonna have kids?" bla bla bla another thing is they have to give out angpau to the kids. If they have kids at least its like a form of investment (?), or a chance for them to educate the kids about money. Kids are getting smarter and smarter (and some are just cunning lol) at a rate that I felt that it's difficult to keep up to. Sighs.
